Keirere Green Africa Agency (KEGRA) is an agricultural Social Enterprise, established in 2012, with the objective of assisting the rural population within the district of Bushenyi. Since establishment, the agency has assisted many households’ increase their incomes through activities like fruit growing, piggery, zero grazing, coffee production, literacy and environmental protection and conservation.

Over years the experience of KEGRA has contributed significantly to the mission of environmental conservation and protection in a number of ways. We have been involved in water source protection and catchment rehabilitation, the approaches used for community mobilization and soil water conservation as well as erosion control technologies, through training and engaging community members in erosion control in Mpanga river catchment area as well as Bundibugyo slope stabilization along Fort-portal road.

In the last decade, increasingly initiatives have been taken to address environmental issues: climate change, loss of bio-diversity and reduction of soil fertility and productivity have been our major concerns involving schools, communities and farmers, propagating and assisting communities to access trees and other land management technologies to protect their soils against runoff and infertility.

KEGRA has been a pioneer in addressing conservation issues using indigenous knowledge systems. Since its inception in 2000, KEGRA has supported the establishment and management of erosion hotspots in the 6 districts namely; Bundibugyo, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Ntoroko, Bushenyi, Rubirizi, Mitooma and Kabale using trees and Vetiver Grass Technology. A total of 42 different wetlands were conserved and rehabilitated.
